The Wide Open is the third Major Event in the Bunkers Golf Society calendar and ties in, date wise, with The Open Championship [British Open] on the PGA tour taking part in July each season.
The winner of The Wide Open will be the holder of its beautiful 14 inch tall trophy [left] for the following 12 months. The winner will also have their name entered onto the Bunkers Roll of Honour [below]
The 2019 winner of The Bunkers Wide Open was Craig Masters with a great medal score of 76 gross and 66 nett on what is a tricky and tight layout at Wigan Golf Club.
Shooting +6 off a handicap of 10 is impressive any time but coming after a victory in our last Major at Bolton GC and Craig takes back-to-back Major victories and is slowly becoming the Brooks Koepke of Bunkers!
Wigan demands accuracy from the tee to ensure you can attack the greens from the right positions and once on the smooth surfaces, you need to be able to read the subtle breaks and drop the ball which Craig did repeatedly.
A wonderful victory for Craig and congratulations on a brilliant round of golf.
